Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

Mockingjay is the third and final book in the "Hunger Game" series. Previously, Katniss' district, the seam, was burned to the ground because of her inevitable role in an uprising that was catching fire. After the horrific end to the quarter quarrel Katniss is rescued by rebels of District 13, which was said to have been destroyed many years ago. She reluctantly agrees to become the Mockingjay, the symbol of the rebellion towards the capitol. She tries to make the best of her stay at District 13 but finds it difficult to cope with when her "significant other", Peeta, appears on television looking very deranged and unlike himself. Sometime later Peeta is rescued by rebels, and when Katniss goes to see him, he tries to kill her. Not able to deal with what happened, Katniss hastily agrees to kill President Snow herself, and she takes a team to start fighting within the Capitol. Once they reach the square, Katniss sees her sister Prim, and tries to signal for her to get away from the parachutes, but it is too late and she, along with many other children, are killed. Snow is captured and on the day she is scheduled to execute him, she unexpectedly kills Coin, the president of District 13. Snow is said to have died, either by choking on his blood or getting trampled by the crowd. Katniss and Peeta eventually live happily ever after and have two children...

1.) If your boyfriend or girlfriend was "captured and brainwashed" and tried to kill you, would you abandon hope or hope for the best?

2.) Coin suggested that they have a hunger games for the children of the capitol (notorious for wrongdoing) but the hunger games is what this war is trying to end. Do you think Katniss killed Coin instead of Snow for this reason?

1. I would hope to find a new girlfriend. I wouldn't want to stay with one that tried to kill me. :)

2. I think Katniss killed Coin to try to start over on both sides. If both leaders are gone, maybe there will be a greater chance peace can be reached, and less children will die.

1. I think that I would hope that things would go back to normal, but I think that I would eventually start looking for another boyfriend (If things didn't change).

2. I agree with Kyle. I think that Katniss did kill Coin to remove the conflicts with the leaders and have a new start. However, I think that if they were trying to eliminate the hunger games Katniss killed Coin, because it was hypocritical to try and end something somewhere else, if your own district is doing it.

1) I think I would hope for the best. Although, even if I did end up searching for a new boyfriend, I would still be worried about my old one coming to kill me and seek protection.

1. I think I would hope for the best because it was not his fault that he was "captured and brainwashed". However, if he became too violent I would have no other choice then to abandon him.

1. If my boyfriend was captured and brainwashed, I don't think I would stick around escpecially if they tried to kill me. There wouldn't be a lot of hope left, if you were trying to be killed by your boyfriend. I would abandon him.

I agree with Sydney, I personally don't think there would be much hope left and it would be hard to be hopefull if they tried to kill me. So I would hope they would turn out okay but not with me, I would move on.
I also think that Katniss killed coin in order for everyone to have a fresh start because there would not be anyone to rule them and have the war continue.

1) I would hope for the best.. if it was really love then itll find its way but i agree with everyone else, if he were to become too violent and put me in danger i would reconsider.

2) I think she did because Coin was being hypocritical and the country needed a clean slate after years upon years of the hunger games.

1. I would not blame them because of the circumstances, but their attempt to kill me would probably be traumatizing and it would be hard to trust them again. I would hope for the best for them alone, but I would most likely abandon the relationship.
2. I agree with Ashley; I think that Katniss understood that the new start they were fighting for could not take place under the leadership of someone with this hypocritical view.

1) If they were captured and brainwashed, then the attack was not their fault. If they could prove that they had been brainwashed and that they were "better," then I would not abandon hope, although it would be very upsetting.
2)I think that Katniss, who had experienced the Hunger Games herself, knew how horrible they were and would do anything to stop them. She was smart enough to realize that a revolution needs to be changing ideals and practices, not just putting a new face in command.

1.) If it was someone I really cared about, I would try and hope for the best.

2.) Yes because it was what Katniss thought was best.

1) It really depends on how close we were. If we were together for a while, i would try to stay hopeful and faithful for as long as it was reasonable to.

1. I would try to stay hopeful and work with them to get our old relationship back. But there is only so much you can do. If nothing was changing, I would probably abandon hope.

1. I agree with Nathan. I would probably lose hope quickly with someone I just met, but hold on longer the longer I knew the person.

1.Depends on how long we were together and how important they were. I would probably hope for the best but loose ineterest.

2.Yes, it would make sense because Coin was being counterproductive.

1. If he was my boyfriend for a long time and he tried to kill me then I would try and hope for the best to make him remember me. But if he didn't remember me then I would wait a little bit then leave.

1. I would try and find them help to see if they could go back to how they used to be. But if they tried to kill me and kept trying I would probably not stay with them because I wouldn't really want someone trying to kill me all the time.

1)I would hope for the best, and not just for my boyfriend or girlfriend, but for anyone who was in that situation.
2)I think that is one of the big reasons that Katniss killed Coin but I think there is other reasons then this.

1. I definately would hope for the best and do all I could to undo the damage that was caused.
2. I am not really sure what the hunger games are but I believe Katniss killed Coin for many reasons in addition to the capitol's hunger games.

I would hope for the best because its not his fault. If you really love someone you would fight but if things became too out of hand then there would be nothing else to do except leave him.

Monica J. 1-2 said...

I would definetly hope for the best because its not his choice to do what hes doing and if i truly loved him i would never leave him.
2. Yes i do think Katniss kills Coin instead of Snow for this reason.

1. I would abandon all hope. If they are a zombie that is the time to get out fast. I would not try and reason with her because it would only hurt me emotionally and or physically.

2. I agree with Hannah K. Katniss experienced the Hunger Games herself. She knew the terrible things that would happen and would do anything to stop them. She was shrewd and knew they needed to change the whole nature of the revolution.

1. It really depends on how involved i was with my boyfriend. If it happend to the person i am with now I would not give up hope. Not just because I have been with him for a while but he is a close family friend and I grew up with him.

Adam B. 7-8 said...

1. If this happened to me it would depend on how involved the relationship was as to what decision I would make.

I would def. Dump her for sure!! And I think snow and coin deserved to die for all the pain and death they caused

1. Creativity I believe is a very important part in any society. Creativity leads to new inventions that may make processes more efficient. So really I think that without creativity, there is little to no efficiency.

2. If I was in that position, and the penalty was death, I would certainly try to run away. If if I was captured and killed anyway, it would have still been worth the try because I would have died anyway.
