If We Kiss by Rachel Vail

In this novel, Charlie the main charcter, is experiencing her freshmen year of high school. Only too soon does she learn that everything is not as they appear. Vail takes the reader through twists and turns during Charlie's freshmen year of high school adventure.
Charlie has been with her best friend Tess, since she could remember. Tess has always been there for Charlie, especially during her parent's divorce. Unfortunately, things happen between these two characters that will tear them apart, and possinly destory their long-lasting friendship. Charlie's long lasting crush, Kevin Lazarus, appears to be the root to all of Charlie's current problems. Kevin Lazarus, having kissed her first, sent the wrong signals to Charlie. Chalrie only finds that Kevin was really interested in Tess. Charlie's mother and Kevin's father form a relationship, in which evolves to something more, and eventually leads to marriage. During the evolution Charlie and her mom go on a skeeing trip with Kevin and his family over winter break, where Kevin and Charlie kiss again...even though Kevin is in a relationship with Tess. Charlie betrays Tess by not telling her, for fear of losing for friendship. Can these two different people save their relationship despite the treachery of Kevin Lazarus?
1. Do you think Tess's and Charlie's friendhsip would have been ruined even if Charlie was honest about Kevin?
2. Do you think Tess was more hurt that Kevin kissed Charlie or that Charlie did not tell her?
3.Do you think Tess and Charlie will remain friends?

1. I think Charlie and Tess would have remained friends if she told Tess about Kevin. Tess probably would have been hurt at first and probably would have broken up with Kevin but she would have gotten through it. Charlie and Tess have been friends for a long time so Tess knows that Charlie really is a good person. She was not trying to hurt Tess by kissing Kevin. She just really liked Kevin and could not stop herself.

3. I think Charlie and Tess will remain friends but they will not be as good of friends as they were. Tess still knows that Charlie is a good person but she is not a very trustworthy friend. They will still be friends but Tess will be more careful with she does and says around Charlie.

I think that Tes was more hurt that Charlie did not tell her about Kevin. If she had been told than they could have worked the problem out easily together. They were close friends and if the friendship meant that much to them they could have worked it out for sure. Tess jsut probably feels like the kissing was done behind her back. That is a hurtful feeling for someone who is trusting their friend. I think that if Tess and Charlie would work it out then they can be friends again. It may take a lot of work, but it will be worth it in the long run. I also think that Charlie could apologize.

1. I think Tess and Charlie would have stayed friends if Charlie was honest with her about Kevin. I think Tess would have been upset at first but then she would have forgiven Charlie.

3. I thinks Tess and Charlie will remain friends because a guy should not tear apart a great friendship. I think as long as Kevin stays of the picture then the girls will remain friends.

I think that it is only natural that Tess would be mad regardless if Charlie told her about the kiss or not. I think that Tess would be more hurt if Charlie did not say anything, because as Ashlyn, said a boy shouldn't come between a great friendship. I do think that it would jeopardize the friendship, but not ruin it.

Question #3: I think Charlie and Tess will still be friends but I think that it's going to take Tess a while to forget the pain that Charlie caused her. Also, I agree with Renae, as long as Kevin isn't around they'll stay friends.

Question #2 (sorry out of order): I think that Tess was more hurt that Charlie didn't tell her because I think Tess would've eventually gotten over the kiss. However, I think that it would take a while to forgive Charlie because obviously, Charlie must have known how Tess would react, yet she betrayed her anyways.

I agree with Sara in that Tess was hurt that Charlie did not tell her that she kissed Kevin. It's hard to tell if Tess and Charlie will be able to remain friends. I think they will need to take some time away from each other for a little so that they can realized how much they both really need each other.

I don't think that their friendship would be ruined but they are going to have trust issues down the road. I definitely think that Tess was more hurt by Charlie not being honest because it hurts to be lied to especially by a close friend that you have known your entire life. I think that for awhile Tess will keep her space from Charlie but eventually the friendship will out weigh their problem.

1. I don't think so...(this story is confusing)...if both friends were honest about it to each other, they would both realize would kind of person Kevin is, and they should both abandon him.
2. I think equally, if you're friend keeps a secret from you, which you normally shouldn't do, but if it's about YOUR "date", it should be even more important to tell the other "date".
3. I depends on what happens at the end. They could if they are able to get Kevin out of their mind, but if they constantly are keeping things hidden, they will never be friends.

1. The friendship would have definitely been ruined, because there is no way that anyone is willing to say,"Well since you told me you betrayed me I'll forgive you"

2. Tess was more hurt about the kiss than the lie, because it seems she really likes Kevin. She would have been equally as mad if Charlie told her right when it happened.

3. They will not make up right away, because it seems that the event has traumatized both. However, later they should realize they are taking the matter to too far of lengths.

heck yeah id be p.o.ed! no way they'd still be tight. shame on charlie for not saying anything and shame on kevin for the same and cheating. if he even has the slightest feelings for charlie, be with her, cause he clearly must not love tess like he thinks or says he does!

I think that the girls' friendship would be badly damaged either way, but I think in the long run that it will be more damaged by the fact that Charlie wasn't honest about Kevin. By not telling her, Charlie is just making the situation all the worse, and I think that Tess will definately be more agry about Charlie's dishonesty than the actual kiss. The kiss could have just been something that was spur-of-the-moment and that neither Charlie nor Kevin thought about until it was over. The fact that Charlie didn't tell Tess though will probably hurt Tess more because it was a concious decision that Charlie made to not tell her. I do think though that the girls will remain friends. Eventually they will realize that Kevin isn't worth them hurting eachother, and will move on.

1.) High school has an effect on friendships, and sometimes that effect is negative. If she had been honest, her friend might have felt betrayed just as much as she did for her friend not being honest.

2.) Tess might have been more hurt that Charlie did not tell her because they had been friends for a very long time and Tess had not been dating Kevin that long.

3.) Tess and Charlie may remain friends but the element of trust may never be fully restored.

I think the situation would have been better off if Charlie told and apologized to Tess instead of hiding it from her. Yeah, Tess would be mad, but she wouldn't through away a life long friendship for one mistake. I think they will remain friends.

i don't think that Tess would have dated Kevin had she known that Charlie was interested in him. I doubt that Charlie kissing Kevin would ruin a friendship like the one Charlie and Tess have.

3. I think they will be friends but will not trust each other as much as they did before.

1)I think Tess's and Charlie's relationship would have been ruined if Charlie was honest about Kevin because she went behind her back and kissed Kevin even though Tess was in a relationship with him.

2)I think that Tess was more upset with the fact that Charlie did not tell her because they have been friends for so long that they should be able to tell each other everything.

3)I think Tess and Charlie will remain friends because they have been friends for so long and have been through so much with eachother that they should be able to put all that happened behind them.

3. I think that if they are truly best friends that they will be able to put their issues with Kevin aside and not let a boy ruin their long friendship.

2. Tess was more upset that Charlie didn't tell her because they were best friends. They had grown up together and shared everything and she was upset that her best friend would betray her trust.
