Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll, is a story about a girl named Alice and her adventure to Wonderland. Alice sits under a tree while listening to her sister read a book. Alice sees a little white rabbit in clothes talking to himself. Alice follows the rabbit and he goes in a rabbit hole. She follows the rabbit into the hole and this begins the journey to Wonderland. After falling a long time, Alice reaches a room with doors of all sizes. Alice finds a key to a very small door that goes to a garden. Alice eats a cake and drinks a potion that makes her grow and shrink to all different sizes. She cries and floods the room and floats away. She meets a Dodo and they have a Caucus race to get Alice dry. Alice doesn't like the race idea so she leaves and runs into the rabbit. He tells her to get the Duchess's gloves and fan. She goes to the house and eats a cake that makes her grow very large again. Throughout the book Alice grows and shrinks to various sizes. Alice meets many characters in Wonderland. After Alice gets out of the Duchess's house, she meets a caterpillar that helps her get back to her original height. Alice meets the Duchess, her cook, a baby that turns into a pig, and a Cheshire cat. The cat tells Alice to go to the tea party where she meets the Hatter, the March hare, and Dormouse. At the tea party, the hosts all ask Alice ridiculous riddles making her leave. As Alice is leaving she finds the garden she saw in the little door. The garden belongs to the Queen of Hearts. The Queen asks Alice to play croquet with her. They use flamingos and hedgehogs for equipment. The Queen gets mad and shouts, "Off with their heads!" many times. After the game of croquet there is a trial on who stole the Queen's tarts. The Queen believes it was the Knave of Hearts. Alice is called up as a witness. Alice grows again and the King and Queen order Alice to to leave, citing rule 42, all persons more than a mile high to leave the court. Alice doesn't leave, she calls them just a pack of cards. The Queen shouts, "Off with her head!" and the cards swarm around Alice. Alice wakes up by leaves falling on her. 1. Do you think Alice's journey to Wonderland was just a dream? 2. If it was a dream, do you think the journey was suppose to symbolize something in Alice's life?

1. I think that the journey was just a dream. The reason I know is because you told me that she woke up.

2. I think its possible that Alice's journey symbolizes her life because if it didn't, the story would be unbelievably pointless.

She wakes up but it doesn't tell you when, so maybe it wasn't a dream.

I agree with Brandon, if she woke up not in wonderland then it was obviously a dream. A pack of cards can't move a person

1. I think that it wasn't a dream. Alice somehow traveled to an alternate universe. The things that happened to her were real, and when the cards swarmed her she switched back into our world.

1.I think it was not a dream because you cant think in dreams but she felt fine and afterwards she can remeber it perfectly when normally you cant remeber dreams. I believe anything is possible.
2.It was symbolizing her having to grow up but still wanting to be a playful children and the fear of maturity.

I think that her journey in Wonderland was just a dream because she woke up at the end. Also, I do not think it symbolized anything in her life.

1. I think that her adventure to Wonderland was not a dream because she seems to remember her adventure perfectly and most people do not remember their dreams. The things that happened on her adventure seem unrealistic but anything is possible.

2. I think she had an adventure to symbolize that she does not have enough adventure in her life.

1. I think that Alice's journey was dream, because it said she woke up.

2. I do think that her dream was meant to symbolize something, but I am not sure what.

1. I also think it was a dream, because she believes that she woke up at the end, and her adventures are impossible.
2. It was symbolizing how she was growing up and moving out of the world of childhood.

1. I think Alice's adventure was not a dream. Although she appeared to be asleep, I think she really did do everything she thought dreamt.

I do not think the story symbolizes anything. I think the author just made an interesting story.

i hate to admit it, but i believe with freddy and brandon on this one. I think it symbolizes some of the hardships in her life and maybe just a hectic schedule.

1. I believe Alice's adventures were real to her, but maybe seemed as a dream to us. I agree with the many others that have said she remembered it and it is hard to recall specific details from dreams such as Alice did. However, the fact that she woke up does indicate it could merely be a dream she had. This is why I believe that it might be possible that her adventures were so real to her and wonderful that we can't accept it as real since we know reality.

2. I believe her dream symoblized how she may have wanted an adventure or how her child like days were coming to an end like many have said.

1. I think it was a dream. It says that she woke up in the end.

2. I think that the dream symbolizes how she has to grow up and is moving into adulthood. Also, I think it symbolizes adventure that she never really had in her life.

Happy almost Easter :)

1. In the end it says that she woke up, so I think it was all just a dream.

2. I think it symbolizes her future, and helps her realize how to live life.

1. I think Alice's journey was just a dream. After all it did say she woke up and the things that happen are unrealistic.

2. I think the journey might have represented her becoming an adult and leaving her childhood behind.

1. I think it was a dream. Like everyone else said, she woke up.

2. Possibly, it might symbolize her problems that are both big and small, like her changing size. I don't know, just an idea.

1)I agree with Anna that maybe the dreams are dreams to us but are real to her.

2)I think it symbolizes her life in general.. from what she has lived in her childhood and her fears or excitements about becoming an adult.

1. I think it was just a dream.
2. I agree with Syd, I think it symbolized how she was no longer a child and she was finally becoming an adult and she had to put all of the fun and games behind her.

I think that it was all a dream for Alice. I also think that it symbolized her life changing anf her growing into an independent, young woman. No longer getting to enjoy the fun and games of life but being an adult.

1.)Yeah, I agree with everyone else that it was just a dream.

2.)I think it symbolized her giving up her childhood to become an individual, independent woman.

1) I do believe it was just a dream because of all the things that happend in it are not something that would really happen.
