To Save A Life

To Save A Life, The extremely touching story about the pressures in real life and high school. Meet Jake Taylor, the typical popular high school jock. The star player on the basketball team. The guy with the prettiest girlfriend in the school, and the one that never misses an invite to a party.
Yes, Jake had what seemed to be the perfect life. He always had his friend by his side. This friend, Roger saved his life. One day in middle school Roger ducked in front of a car to block Jake from being hit. This left Roger with a permanent limp. Roger was always made fun of , but Jake was always thankful.
When Jake got invited to a big party he left Roger in the dust.
When Jake and Roger got into highschool, Roger was completely ignored and made fun of. One day when he couldn't take any more abuse, he took his own life. In front of everyone, at the highschool. Jake took this personally. Roger saved his life, and Jake couldn't even be a good enough friend to give Roger a reason to keep his. Jake wanted to change his life. He was not sure how to do so. He started at church and at the local youth group. Trying to make his peers get along and see eachother equally. Jake learned from his friend Roger how important life is. He really wants to change and potentially save lives. Even if it makes him lose a college scholarship, his beautiful girlfriend, or his future child. How much will he give up to save a life?
1. Why do you think that Jake and Roger stopped communicating?
2. What would you give up to help a friend in need?

1. I dont' feel that Jake stopped talking to Roger on purpose. It was just a matter of him probably being able to do different things like the sport he is involved in. Therefore he would be more busy and want to see people who were in that sport with him (not that that makes not speaking with Roger acceptable). I think they stopped speaking out of circumstance.

1. I agree with Josie. I think that as people get older their interest begin to shift and they hang out with different people. I think that part of the reason they stopped talking was Jake was popular and Roger did not fit in. However, one can only hope that they stopped talking for more of a reason than Roger was not liked. After all, Roger saved his life, so Jake could at least be nice to him.

1. I'm thinking that communication stopped because of Roger's limp. A cripple is rarely a cool kid. Also, a guy with a name like Roger also has popularity against him for that reason. On the other side, you don't get much cooler than "Jake".

2. Man!, that's an open ended question. Well, I would give up drinking soda. That's saying a lot because I really like pop.

1. Jake was now popular, and Roger was kind of the weird "outcast" kid, who just was awkward around everybody. It didn't help that he had a defect either. Jake never meant to stop the friendship, but he didn't want to be uncool and talk to Roger.

2. I hate to say it, but it depends upon the friend. Some friends I would give everything for and they would do the same for me [at least I hope they would :)], and some friends I'm sure wouldn't do that for me.

1. I agree with Josie also. I think that the circumstances made them not communicate as much anymore. Also, he might have made new friends and kind of left Roger out with out really meaning to.
2. I would do everything I could to help a friend in need, or at least I hope I would do so.

1.) I too agree with Josie, as Jake and Roger got older the two got into different things and eventually drifted away.

1. People tend to change as they mature, so it's not hard for friends at a young age to grow apart by highschool. I really don't think Jake stopped talking to Roger only because he had a problem with Roger's social status, but their levels of popularity may have caused them to spend time with different people and end up in different crowds.
2. Roger basically gave up his life for Jake, which left him dead and Jake with a debt he didn't ask for. I don't think that anyone should have to owe someone else their life, but it's only human to be compassionate. Personally I would give up what it's worth. It really depends on in what way they're in need.

1. Jake forgot about Roger when he found a new crowd of more socially accepted friends.
2.I would donate a non-vital organ.

1. I think they stopped talking because Jake was popular and Roger was different, and Jake wanted to be popular so he didn't want to be seen as weird talking to Roger.

1. I think it was probably a combination of Jake wanting to spend less time with Roger, and them simply growing apart from being in different crowds.
2. I would like to think I'd give up anything for a friend in need, but like Lisa said, it really depends on the situation. I don't think there can be a clear answer for that question.

1.) People grow a part in high school. Even ties that should bind people forever can be severed by cliques and the pressure to become popular.

2.) I would hope that I would have the strength to give up everything for a friend in need.

1. I think they just grew apart. Friendships don't last forever.
2. I agree with Spencer. I would do as much as I could without sacrificing my own life.

1.I think that Jake got caught up in being popular and that is why he drifted from Roger.
2.Depending on how in need they were, i would do as much as i needed to.
